Lawn Maintenance Contract Protects You And Your Yard

Possibly the cheapest way to maintain your lawn is with the services of a professional lawn care company. When you hire one they will probably ask, and you should demand, they sign a lawn maintenance contract. The agreement should specify the responsibilities of the company as well as the homeowner so there are no questions as to who is responsible for what part of the lawn care.

Any lawn maintenance contract should spell out how many times the company will visit and cut and trim as well as being specific as to what areas will be trimmed. The contract will probably leave open some room for inclement weather when cutting the grass will not be possible. Generally, the contract estimates how many times during the season specific care will be provided, but weather always plays a role in the final outcome of any lawn maintenance contract.

In a general lawn maintenance contract it will state the company will cut grass down to a specified height and trim areas, also specified in the contract on a week or 10-day basis. For this work, they will be paid a set amount and if they cannot, for weather-related reason conduct the work, will not expect to be paid.

Specified Lawn Care Included In Contract

Companies may also offer beginning and season ending services such as fertilizer applications, winterizing, aerating and rolling and if they are to be included in the work, they should be written into the lawn maintenance contract. If you are dealing with a professional company, they may offer services not in the contract for a lower price, depending on how busy they are, but be careful in authorizing extra work as without having the agreement in writing you may have little recourse if the bill is more than anticipated.

Mulching flower beds is usually done by a landscaping crew but some lawn companies offer the service and if available should be writing into your lawn maintenance contract so you know what type of mulch will be used and when you can expect to see it applied. It should also be noted what happens to lawn clippings and if the company picks them up, how are they disposed of.

There are many jobs that a lawn care company can perform to help reduce your time outside and having a lawn maintenance contract can insure the jobs get done when they say they will get done at a preset cost.

Gardening Tip #11

Some plants require re-potting for optimum growth but there are others that resent having their roots disturbed. Or their roots system may be small enough that they don't require re-potting. One way to check if your plant needs re-potting is to turn it upside down. Tap the pot to release the plant and check its roots. If roots are all you see, then re-pot. Sometimes the roots will come out of the pot. You should either cut them off or re-pot the plant.
